AZ Vibe – The Ultimate Phoenix Entertainment Resource

Where Phoenix goes to find out what's really going on!

This is the first post in a new Category called ‘Outdoors Stuff’. There won’t be very many entries in this category right now due to it being the Monsoon season and triple digit temperatures. In the odd day that it’s cool enough to go out I wanted to draw up a simple map of the Scottsdale Greenbelt based on one of the shorter Bike Rides I used to train for a triathlon a few months ago.  You can go on some of the trail or all of it depending on how hot it becomes or how much you want to explore the belt.  Granted, if the Monsoons dump a ton of rain many parts of the Greenbelt will be closed from flooding due to the crappy drainage there is in the Greenbelt.

Here’s a detailed map of the Greenbelt trail From Scottsdale to Mill Ave in Tempe and back.

Ok one more movie post for now.  I’m posting this one because it’s not going to get much attention if at all by the local media.

Ok long story short.  This movie is a documentary of actors Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, First three Star Wars Movies, Big Fish) and Charley Boorman (Excalibur) 15,000 mile motorcycle journey  from Scotland to South Africa raising money for Unicef (among other charities).  This film is a 2 hour directors cut documentary of their journey.  If you have seen their first journey around the world called ‘Long Way Round’ you know they come across some interesting stuff along the way.

Check out the trailer.  It’s pretty powerful stuff…

I checked this band out today as I wanted to see what the live music offerings were on a Tuesday night.  I never have been to the Mondrain Hotel before so it was a wee bit hard to find as there aren’t any signs indicating you are at the hotel.

I walked into the bar and heard what was the tightest Latin band I have heard in a long time.  The grooves the Rakata Latin Combo put out had a distinct Miami vibe to them which I love.  I absolutely love Miami based Latin music as well as Miami based House/Techno.

I’m Definitely going to go back and see them again.  However, given the time of the evening I went coupled with the fact that this is the 4th of July weekend coming up, the place was not too packed.  I’m definitely going back after the holiday as this is simply just a cool place for dancing.

Just a note to those of you on tight budgets, the booze at the bar is hella expensive so if you can’t afford around 10 bucks a drink, get water.

The Rakata Latin Combo plays every Tuesday night at the Mondrian Hotel in Scottsdale from 7:30 to 10:30 PM.
