Phoenix – ROD STEWART and STEVIE NICKS announced that they have joined forces for one of the most anticipated musical events of the year, THE HEART & SOUL TOUR. Launching March 20, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the tour will unite two of music’s most legendary forces for a series of arena concerts throughout North America – with performances already confirmed in Phoenix, New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Tampa, Montreal and more. (Phoenix – January 20, 2011) — Pop superstar Katy Perry announced yesterday via a live appearance on Facebook that her California Dreams 2011 world tour is coming to North America this summer. The North American leg of the tour will start on June 7th in Atlanta, GA and will run through August 14th with two hometown shows in Katy’s hometown Santa Barbara, CA. To support her platinum-selling sophomore album Teenage Dream (EMI’s Capitol Records), Katy will kick off the California Dreams tour on February 20th in Lisbon, Portugal, traveling throughout Europe, the UK, Australia and Japan before hitting stateside in June. The tour makes a stop in Phoenix for one night at Comerica Theatre on Wednesday, August 3. The show is scheduled to start at 7:30pm.

Katy is planning on interacting with fans through social media networks throughout the California Dreams tour. As announced last week, Katy will perform at this year’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 13th. (Phoenix – Tuesday January 18^th) -  One of the truly successful tours of 2010, Live Nation announced today that Phoenix will be among a number of dates on the revered RUSH TIME MACHINE TOUR 2011.  Returning to North America for a selection of dates between March and July, the band will be performing primarily in markets not played on the previous tour.  The Time Machine Tour is an evening with Rush; performing their classics, providing a taste of the future, and featuring the legendary Moving Pictures album live in its entirety. The tour will make a stop here in Phoenix on Thursday, June 16 at US Airways Center.  The show is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.

Rush – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart – is without question one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, equally famed for both its virtuoso musicianship and provocative songwriting.

I recently came across this quote of mine from 22 years ago:

” What it comes down to for me is this: Will the technologies of communication in our culture, serve to enlighten us and help us to understand one another better, or will they deceive us and keep us apart?”

I believe this is still a supremely relevant question and the jury is out. There is a lot of commercial clutter on the net, and a lot of propaganda, but I have a sense that just beneath the surface understanding is gaining ground. We just have to keep blogging, keep twittering, keep communicating, keep sharing ideas.

30 Years ago when I wrote The Wall I was a frightened young man. Well not that young, I was 36 years old.

It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with it’s concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns.: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.

This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent lost in the intervening years.

In some quarters, among the chattering classes, there exists a cynical view that human beings as a collective are incapable of developing more ‘humane’ ie, kinder, more generous, more cooperative, more empathetic relationships with one another.

I disagree.

In my view it is too early in our story to leap to such a conclusion, we are after all a very young species.

I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other.

I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to express my, albeit guarded, optimism, and encourage others to do the same. To quote the great man, ” You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

Heavy Metal legends Iron Maiden are embarking on a brand new world tour that will be playing the Cricket Wireless Pavilion for one night only on June 17th. Opening the show will be another metal legend, Dream Theater.

Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickinson had this to say on what fans can expect for the Cricket Wireless Show “We’re still working on the set list for these summer shows, but this time it will cover the whole history of the band, and I can hint that we will be playing a taster from the new album. We already have the designs for the new Final Frontier stage show which we are building to bring out with us, so this summer tour will be a bit of a preview for the fans. It’s certainly looking very spectacular at this stage and with a brand new Eddie and an amazing light show!”

Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy had this to say about opening for Iron Maiden on this tour:

“Touring with Iron Maiden in North America is a bit of a dream come true for us! After 25 years together, at this stage in our career there’s honestly only three bands Dream Theater would consider opening for…and Maiden is one of them! It is an absolute honor.
