Death Cab for Cutie

Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has unveiled details of their upcoming fall tour.  The dates – which celebrate the recent release of the band’s critically acclaimed new album, “CODES AND KEYS” – begin September 30th in Cincinnati and then continue through a major hometown headline show at Seattle’s Key Arena at Seattle Center on October 22nd (see attached itinerary). Furthermore, DCFC will also be among the headline acts appearing at Sunrise, Florida’s annual Langerado Music Festival on October 8th and San Francisco’s Treasure Island Music Festival on October 16th.

Death Cab for Cutie will be accompanied on their upcoming schedule by an extraordinary range of special guests, including Telekinesis (September 30th through October 11th), Explosions In The Sky (October 15th), The Hold Steady (October 18th – 21st), and The Head And The Heart (October 22nd).  Presale tickets for all dates except the previously announced Key Arena show will be available to members of the band’s official fan club, DCFC Union Local #1138, beginning Wednesday, August 3rd.  All remaining tickets will then go on sale to the general public starting on Friday, August 5th.  For further details and as-yet-unannounced tour information, please visit www.deathcabforcutie.com.

Death Cab for Cutie has only just embarked on their much-anticipated summer headline tour, set to travel North America through late August. The band has spent much of the past few months on the road, beginning in May with a sold-out tour of intimate venues across North America and followed by a series of European headline dates and festival appearances.

Death Cab for Cutie will celebrate the success of “CODES AND KEYS” with a live performance on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman, slated for September 28th.  In addition they will be filming a performance for PBS’ “Live from the Artists’ Den” in coming weeks to air later this year.

In other news, Death Cab for Cutie has set “Stay Young, Go Dancing” as the next single from “CODES AND KEYS” – full details will be announced shortly.  Meanwhile, “You Are A Tourist,” the album’s first single, has proven a multi-format radio smash, reaching #1 at both Triple A and Modern Rock outlets nationwide – DCFC’s first-ever #1 at the latter format.  What’s more, the “You Are A Tourist” companion video has just received a 2011 MTV Video Music Awards nomination for “Best Art Direction.”  Directed by award-winning filmmaker Tim Nackashi (TV On The Radio, OK Go, Elvis Costello, Radiohead), and conceptualized by frequent collaborator Aaron Stewart-Ahn, the clip is the first-ever live, scripted, single-take music video to be broadcast as it was filmed.   “You Are A Tourist” is airing now below, where it has already logged close to 2 million views.

“CODES AND KEYS” entered the Billboard 200 at #3 upon its May release.  In addition to its popular success, the album has also received critical praise from an wide array of national publications, including Spin, Rolling Stone, Blackbook, Time Out New York, Interview, Filter, the New York Times, and Entertainment Weekly, which declared the album to be “a reminder to the rest of the pretty-rock community that loveliness is worthless if there’s no heart behind it, and Death Cab’s beats stronger than most.”

Prior to the 2011 US tour – which will be the band’s first since 2008 – they completed a highly-acclaimed, sold-out tour of Europe which garnered rave reviews. Touring in support of their recently released album, A Thousand Suns, which debuted on top of the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart, Linkin Park’s live show is a celebration of sound and vision – a transformative multi-media experience that befits the power of the music. The tour’s set list combines the biggest hits of the band’s career, as well as material from the new album, which has been described as a psychedelic journey that explores the conflict between technology and humanity. Lead vocalist Chester Bennington says, “The new songs work really well alongside the older stuff. Plus, there’s a strong, powerful message to A Thousand Suns, and we’ve transferred that into the show. Our aim was that we’re not just putting on a live performance, but something that’s visually spectacular as well.”
Linkin Park was just voted ‘Best Live Act’ at the 2010 MTV European Music Awards. As a special “thank you” to concert goers, included as a bonus with the purchase of every ticket, fans will be able to download a live recording of the show they attended by texting a code from their mobile phones that will be displayed at the venue. Roger Waters brings ‘The Wall’ tour to Phoenix

Posted by Woody On May - 4 - 2010

Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival 2008 - Day 3

On Saturday November 27th, one of the best rock albums of all time will be performed at the US Airways Center when Roger Waters of Pink Floyd Fame performs the rock Opera ‘The Wall’ in its entirety. Not much is known about the makeup of the tour other than the dates booked but you can definitely expect one of the best stage shows you have ever witnessed. When it comes to productions of ‘The Wall’ over the years, (‘The Wall’ has been performed in its entirety only 31 times since it’s release) they all have used the most state of the art technology for each production. Roger Waters has always been at the forefront of technology and music and has proved time and time again that he is not afraid to push the limits of both.

Roger Waters isn’t going to be touring for very much longer and with two former members of Pink Floyd now deceased (Syd Barrett and Richard Wright) and another member officially retired from touring (David Gilmour). This is probably your last chance ever to see not only a high quality Pink Floyd production but Roger Waters in concert.

Do not miss this chance to see one of the best sound and visual experiences you could ever imagine in a concert setting.

Tickets are priced at $203.75, $103.75, $79.75 and $59.75 and do not include applicable service charges.

Tickets go on Sale Monday, May 10th at 10am at Ticketmaster.com by clicking on this link.

Roger Waters posted the following essay on his website about why he’s doing ‘The Wall’ again in 2010….

Roger Waters, 2010

I recently came across this quote of mine from 22 years ago:

” What it comes down to for me is this: Will the technologies of communication in our culture, serve to enlighten us and help us to understand one another better, or will they deceive us and keep us apart?”

I believe this is still a supremely relevant question and the jury is out. There is a lot of commercial clutter on the net, and a lot of propaganda, but I have a sense that just beneath the surface understanding is gaining ground. We just have to keep blogging, keep twittering, keep communicating, keep sharing ideas.

30 Years ago when I wrote The Wall I was a frightened young man. Well not that young, I was 36 years old.

It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with it’s concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns.: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.

This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent lost in the intervening years.

In some quarters, among the chattering classes, there exists a cynical view that human beings as a collective are incapable of developing more ‘humane’ ie, kinder, more generous, more cooperative, more empathetic relationships with one another.

I disagree.

In my view it is too early in our story to leap to such a conclusion, we are after all a very young species.

I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other.

I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to express my, albeit guarded, optimism, and encourage others to do the same. To quote the great man, ” You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

Green Day and Franz Ferdinand Perform at the Forum

Green Day is returning to the Phoenix Area and bringing its ’21st Century Breakdown’ stage show spectacular to the Cricket Wireless Pavilion on August 30th. Green Day returns almost a year after their last Phoenix appearance in 2009 (they played the US Airways Center on August 22nd) where they played for almost three hours. Opening the show will be AFI.

I personally have seen Green Day live and they are one of the few artists that actually ‘get’ how to put on a live show. Their shows are not to be missed.

Green Day also has two special offer for fans who purchase tickets to this show:

1) The Ticket Prices for all seats will not include ‘any additional fees of any kind’.
2) When tickets go on sale to the General Public, Green Day will have a very limited supply of $20 General admission lawn seats available.

You can purchase tickets before the general public by joining the Green Day Fan club:
