On August 9, 2009 from 10 AM to 10 PM CrackerJax in North Scottsdale will be unveiling their newest attraction, the Bungy Dome.  The Bungy Dome will have four separate jump stations allowing people to be able to jump in the air and perform many fun and safe aerial acrobatics.  The dome in which the bungy attractions will be under will keep everyone cool.

Two local companies are tackling the problem of lack of food at local food banks in a creative way.

Not too long ago, local entrepreneurial incubator Gangplank challenged Terralever co-managing partner Andy Richter via Twitter to see who can raise the largest amount of food donations. Mr. Richter happily accepted the challenge.

What is the challenge? To see which of the two companies can bring in the most food donations. Their collective goal is to raise at least one ton of food. The challenge will end in August when the official tally of food will be calculated and the winner will be determined

The Terralever/Gangplank food drive will benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance which has experienced a 90% drop in donations due to the economy. At times there are lines around the building with people looking to receive lunch so they really could use the help.

Terralever has also enlisted the help of the following local marketing companies for the food drive; Off Madison Ave, KeaneCreative, Sitewire Agency, and Synapse Studios.

We recieved the following note from a great friend of ours and we need your help!  The family of Santos Sarreola need your help!  Here’s what our friend told us about little Santos:

I met little Santos a few months ago when he was undergoing a treatment at Envita clinic. he is the coolest little boy and it breaks my heart to see how much pain he is enduring.

Santos Arreola was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in June of 2007. Medulloblastoma is the most common primary central nervous system tumor which arises in childhood.

People can read his story online at the link I provide. it’s the introduction of this CaringBridge site given by his mother Leticia Garcia. Leticia has not given up on Santos – not even when doctors told her she is fighting an uphill battle. She is struggling financially because she needs to be with Santos while he is undergoing the treatments. I’m sure he’d appreciate the visit once he is out of PCC.

I’ve been thinking about a lead paragraph for this review but all I can come up with is ‘Man what a great event this was!’  The Assist4Africa Charity Basketball Game consisted of current and former Phoenix Area pro sports athletes and local media.  The list of Celebrities included former NBA players Tom Chambers, Dan Majerle, Eddie Johnson, current Phoenix Coyotes Daniel Winnick, and Keith Yandel, as well as players like former Arizona Diamondbacks star Quentin McCracken.

From the opening tip off, the fans were in for a treat the entire game long. There was some players that were taking the game a wee bit seriously but there were some hilarious moments during the game as well.  Most of them came from former Suns player Cedric Ceballos.  For example, whenever former Suns player Mark West went to the foul line, Ceballos layed down on the court and said that (paraphrasing) “West is shooting, we’re going to be here for a while”.

Here’s another gem from Ceballos after Larry Fitzgerald fouls him.  His comments come after he jogs off screen to the right:

Even though this was a basketball game, it didn’t follow any sort of format or time schedule which was not only refreshing for a change but it added to the fun atmosphere of the event.  The players on the team were there to entertain and left the fans more than satisfied.  Various stoppages in play brought out different activities from a live auction of a Kurt Warner Autographed jersey along with lunch with Mr. Warner, to a dance contest with Kids, to a representative from Partners in Malawi (the organization where all the proceeds were going) talking about the wonderful work they have been doing.

On the opposite end of the floor, there was a silent auction with a large number of REALLY killer sports memorabilia available.  For example, Orlando Magic super star Dwight Howard had an autographed jersey available and there was a hockey stick signed by the entire Phoenix Coyotes team.

All in all, this was a spectacular event from start to finish.  I just wish there were more people there as they missed an extremely entertaining evening.  We would love to help out next year in the promotions department as this is a great event benefiting an extremely worthy cause.

I was re-reading the original press release for Assist4Africa just now and one line stuck out for me:

This is the third time for the event and it promises to be the best ever.

I couldn’t agree more.

Partners in Malawi is a non-profit organization designed to promote the awareness and education of AIDS/HIV in Malawi.  All of the proceeds from the event went to all the efforts this organization does in Malawi.

If you’re a Hockey fan, I mean a REAL hockey fan you know that the best way to become a fan is to go to a game in person. Every single aspect of the game on and off the ice is part of the game experience. 50/50 raffles, the food, the sounds and feelings that occur when your favorite team scores a goal or wins the game. All of these experiences from going to a Hockey game, no matter what level of a hockey game you go to, carries on with you for the rest of your life.

One of the really great things about my job is that I get some great, heartwarming stories that you just need to tell everyone about.  The Phoenix Coyotes and Jobing.com arena have formed a Partnership with the Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) in marketing their PCH Handprints campaign.

PCH Handprints is an aggressive marketing campaign tied in with a Documentary short film “Hand prints of Hope”.  The marketing aspect involves hand prints of children from PCH with eight different slogans.

The Image below shows a sample of one of the many signs that will hang around the Jobing.com arena this season for Coyotes games and ALL Jobing.com events.  There are eight phrases in all.  The next time you are wandering the halls of the Jobing.com arena, make sure you stop and see these wonderful displays.

EACH HANDPRINT IS ITS OWN STAMP OF COURAGE, REVEALING INCREDIBLE STORIES OF SERIOUSLY ILL CHILDREN WHO RELIED ON HOPE, DETERMINATION AND A TEAM OF PEDIATRIC SPECIALISTS WHO WOULDN’T GIVE UP.

That’s one of the first things you see when you go to the PCH Handprints website.  This phrase basically sums up this incredible effort that PCH does on a daily basis.  This phrase also sums up the passion and desire the Phoenix Coyotes, and Jobing.com arena have put into this campaign to make it a success.

The Phoenix Coyotes along with Coyotes Charities are holding the inaugural Pucks and Passports fundraising event on Monday October 6th starting at 6:00 PM.  The Jobing.com arena in Glendale will be the location of this unique event where you will be able to go on a culinary journey through the homelands of the Coyotes sampling various foods and drinks from many countries.  Coyotes players will be among the guides taking you on this amazing journey of culinary delights.

In case you haven’t heard, one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Phoenix Zoo, called Zoofari, is just around the corner on Friday October 3 from 7 PM to 11 PM.   Zoofari has established itself as not only the key fundraising drive of the year for the Phoenix Zoo but as an amazing social event in Phoenix.

However, the Phoenix Zoo needs your help to make this event a lasting memory for all by volunteering behind the scenes for Zoofari.

At Zoofari you will have the opportunity to help the Phoenix Zoo raise funds for the Bornean Orangutans and their much needed expansion to their current habitat. Normally, the proceeds for this event go to the Zoo’s general operation funds.  However, for this year’s edition of Zoofari all of the funds will be directed towards building and expanding the Orangutan’s habitat.

One of the main reasons why this year’s edition of Zoofari is so important is because that by current estimates of deforestation and the destruction of animal habitats, the wild orangutans are very likely to become extinct within the next 10 years.

The Phoenix Zoo is looking for Volunteers to help make Zoofari the greatest fundraising event in their history and to help stop the Orangutans current path to extinction. Zoofari is expected to be attended by over 2,000 residents of Phoenix who want to help the Phoenix Zoo keep these magnificent animals from going extinct.

The evening is set up to be one of the biggest if not the best social events of the year. Zoofari will have 10 bands playing across five stages playing all types of live music. Music will range from Jazz to Brazilian, to Rock. The entire event will be emceed by Legendary Phoenix News Broadcaster Pat McMahon who himself is offering a auction item called ‘A Day with Pat McMahon’.  There will also be some very unique performers ‘blending’ into the crowd as it were.  I could try to explain it but why don’t I let the video do the talking:

On September 15 2008 from 8 AM to 10 PM all of the Massage Envy locations around the greater phoenix will be Teaming up with the Phoenix area chapter for the Susan G. Komen foundation.  Massage Envy will be providing one hour massage sessions at all of their state wide locations at no cost to you.  All that is asked is to make the suggested donation of $49.  However, any amount will be accepted.  It is also recommended that a gratuity is made to the massage therapist as well.

In the four years since the inception of ‘Massage for the Cure’ Massage Envy has raised over $150,000 for breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment in Arizona.  Last year alone, Massage Envy raised over $55,000 and the hope to raise even more money and awareness for breast cancer!

Reservations can be made by phone or in person at your local Massage Envy clinic starting September 8th.  Only one appointment per person please.

The Phoenix Coyotes are looking for registered non-profit organizations (501(c)(3)) and who can provide 20 volunteers over the age of 18 to raise money during 50/50 raffles for every game.

For those of you who have never been to an NHL/hockey game, a 50/50 raffle is a time honored tradition at all Hockey games. 50/50 raffles are basically a lottery system where fans at a Coyotes game purchases at least one raffle ticket (multiple tickets are usually purchased) and the main prize is 50 percent of the total money raised for the 50/50 raffle.  The other 50 percent of the total money raised for the raffle goes to the non profit organization.

Once you enter into the arena for a Coyotes Game, as an example, you will see 50/50 raffle representatives strategically placed all over the upper and lower concourses of the arena.  Just go up to one of the voulenteers, purchase your tickets and the drawing will be later on in the game.

This is a great way for non-profit organizations to raise money!
