Randy Johnson – Rock Photographer?!?!?!?!

Posted by Editor On September - 2 - 2010

PHOENIX-Last week you may have heard that the ‘American Carnage’ tour with Megadeth, Slayer, and Testament played the Dodge Theater on August 27th. I’m willing to bet even some of you might have gone to the show.

What you didn’t know was that former Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks pitching legend Randy Johnson was taking photos of Megadeth’s show from various angles and perspectives. Johnson was a special guest of Megadeth and they allowed him to take many photos of the band over the course of their Phoenix show.

Normally, bands only allow photographers to take photos during the first two or three songs of a concert. Johnson appeared to have that ruled waived and got some great shots of the latter stages of Megadeth’s show at the Dodge Theater.  Photos like this you don’t see too often so it’s a really special treat when fans can see photos of bands over the course of an entire show.

Here’s an inside look at Randy Johnson taking photos of Megadeth backstage before their Phoenix show:

This isn’t the first time that Randy Johnson has taken photos of rock bands live in concert. On August 8th, during the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, Illinois, Randy Johnson took photographs of the recently re-united Soundgarden in action. Johnson became close friends with Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil when he was pitching for the Seattle Mariners and was given unlimited access to the band’s stage during their set. The link below has great shots of Soundgarden’s set along with a running story of how Randy Johnson became close friends with the members of Soundgarden.

Hall and Oates waffles and cancels Chase Field gig

BRECON, WALES - MARCH 11: Sheep in the lambing shed of Gwndwnwal Farm on March 11, 2010 in Brecon, Wales. Dai Brute runs Gwndwnwal Farm in Llan-Talyllyn, Brecon with his wife Dulcie Brute and son Paul Brute. The family is currently working hard during lambing season which lasts from February - May, during which their dedication and hard work can result in over 1200 new lambs being added to the flock over a season. Daryl Hall and John Oates seen here (above) following the heard by acting before thinking in regards to their canceling their Chase Field Gig.

By now you have heard that Hall and Oates have pussed out and canceled their Chase Field gig following the July 2nd Diamondbacks game with the Dodgers.

Below is their lame excuse (courtesy of the Arizona Diamondbacks) for canceling their gig. Remember this piss poor excuse when these wannabe Mensa candidates finally man up and come back to Arizona.

DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES CANCEL POST-GAME CONCERT AT CHASE FIELD BECAUSE OF PERSONAL STANCE ON ARIZONA’S NEW IMMIGRATION LAW

(PHOENIX) — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that Daryl Hall and John Oates canceled their post-game concert at Chase Field that was to take place following the D-backs game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 2 because of their personal stance against Arizona’s new immigration law.

Daryl Hall and John Oates issued the following statement:

“In addition to our personal convictions, we are standing in solidarity with the music community in our boycott of performing in Arizona at this time. We would like to emphasize that this has nothing to do with the management of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have been professional and cooperative throughout our dealings with them. This is our response to a very specific action of the state.”

Other events surrounding the D-backs’ All-American Weekend, will still take place, including the Valley’s largest Independence Day fireworks show, courtesy of Gila River Casinos, following the 6:40 p.m. game on July 3 and the organization’s annual Military Day salute during the 1:10 p.m. game on July 4.

“We understand the reasoning behind Daryl Hall and John Oates not wanting to perform in Arizona at this time to solidify themselves with their peers in the music industry,” said D-backs’ President & CEO Derrick Hall. “The cancelation of this post-game concert is another example of how controversial this issue is.”

Green Day and Franz Ferdinand Perform at the Forum

Green Day is returning to the Phoenix Area and bringing its ’21st Century Breakdown’ stage show spectacular to the Cricket Wireless Pavilion on August 30th. Green Day returns almost a year after their last Phoenix appearance in 2009 (they played the US Airways Center on August 22nd) where they played for almost three hours. Opening the show will be AFI.

Bad Brains is coming to Phoenix in a rare show. No, really

Posted by Woody On March - 25 - 2010
Steve Van Zandt Hosts "Save CBGB's" Rally in Washington Square Park

Legendary punk/hardcore band Bad Brains is making an EXTREMELY rare appearance in Phoenix on April 10th at 8 PM at the Celebrity Theater. The reason why this is such a rare performance is because the band doesn’t tour in the traditional sense anymore. Also, they only seem to play one off shows or a very small string of shows.

Opening for Bad Brains will be The Goad & The Occasional Others, Bad Shit, and Via Vengeance.

This show is serving as the after party show for the PHXAM Skateboard Tournament taking place at the Rio Vista Skateboard Park in Peoria, AZ.

For a great career summary about the band, check this out:

http://www.badbrains.com/history/index-bio.html

Tickets are only $13 and can be purchased at Cowtown, Stinkweeds, Eastside Records, Mastodon and the Celebrity Theater Box Office.
